Green Controlling for Responsible Business

Solutions for the controlling practice

Steering environmental sustainability is becoming increasingly important for corporate management and controlling. As studies by the idea workshop of the International Association of Controllers (ICV) show, the vast majority of companies has realised how vital this issue is, but most of them have not yet developed specific action plans and procedures for realisation. Countless scientific and academic contributions have been published on the subject, yet practical examples of companies successfully mastering the challenges of “Green Controlling” are few and far between.

The work group Green Controlling was established in 2009 with the objective of developing application-oriented opportunities for the integration of sustainability goals in the controlling system on the basis of the process model of the International Group of Controlling (IGC) and the ICV. The Green Controlling Guidelines published by Haufe in 2012 are an important milestone and serve as a fundamental basis for the activities of the working group. It presents proposals for the expansion of the process model from strategic planning to reporting, in order to incorporate Green Controlling considerations.

The members of this work group represent a cross-section of companies which already handle sustainability issues. Solutions to current challenges in the practical implementation of Green Controlling are developed in collaboration.
