ICV CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP

Gain access to our international controlling community
Many from participants of both congresses that took place lately (41st Controller Congress in Munich and 10th International Controller Congress in Serock by Warsaw) work by ICV corporate members. Our international network of controllers and managers, with around 6,500 members, enabled them taking part in the event in special prices and sharing knowledge and experience with other controllers and CFOs from leading enterprises. Corporate Membership provides companies with access to our international controlling community through comprehensive professional education opportunities on current issues, through knowledge sharing at our conferences, via our print and online media and thanks to personal contacts in the regional work groups as well as the sector and expert work groups.  Many of our offerings includ e significant preferential pricing or are included in the annual membership fee. In this way, companies with four controllers benefit from a Corporate Membership.

INDUSTRIE 4.0

The digital transformation of Western Europe's industrial sector can create 420 billion euros in value added
The industrial sector's transition to Industrie 4.0 is much more than a question of technology. It will affect not only individual corporate strategy but also national economic and employment policy. The consultancy Roland Berger has published a new study, "The Industrie 4.0 transition quantified – How the fourth industrial revolution is reshuffling the economic, social and industrial model", which lays out how these effects can be visualized. The key is to look at the return on capital employed (ROCE) in the manufacturing sector. The approach shows how Industrie 4.0 can help improve profitability and ROCE simultaneously and highlights the resulting effects on companies, nations and employment.

AVOIDING TIME WASTE DUE TO FAILURES

Presswerk 4.0: Cutting downtimes in half, making manufacturing flexible
It costs companies a lot of money to have machines out of operation due to failure. This applies to press shops, too, the focus of Fraunhofer’s Presswerk 4.0 project. Researchers want to employ targeted data networking in manufacturing to help employees recognize and correct failures more quickly – and reduce failure-related downtimes by at least half. Smart, connected machines balance out disturbances so that material that normally lands in the scrap pile can be processed. In the long term, researchers want to develop the system further to the point where it can issue a warning even before a fault has arisen. In order to achieve this, additional data sources are installed in the form of sensors.

BIG DATA NEWS

European Cloud Initiative to give Europe a global lead in the data-driven economy
Europe is the largest producer of scientific data in the world, but insufficient and fragmented infrastructure means this 'big data' is not being exploited to its full potential. By bolstering and interconnecting existing research infrastructure, the Commission plans to create a new European Open Science Cloud that will offer Europe's 1.7 million researchers and 70 million science and technology professionals a virtual environment to store, share and re-use their data across disciplines and borders. This will be underpinned by the European Data Infrastructure, deploying the high-bandwidth networks, large scale storage facilities and super-computer capacity necessary to effectively access and process large datasets stored in the cloud. This world-class infrastructure will ensure Europe participates in th e global race for high performance computing in line with its economic and knowledge potential.

RUSSIA AND OECD MEMBERS

Mergers and Acquisitions Collapse
The number of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) taking place between Russian companies and companies located in countries included in the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) have come to an almost complete standstill as a result of the latest political events surrounding the crisis in Crimea. In 2015, only 43 M&A transactions took place between Western and Russian businesses, fewer than ever since data collection began. These are the findings of calculations by the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) based on the Zephyr database of Bureau van Dijk (BvD).
