50-plus und Y generation: Teamwork and understanding drive controlling forward

What was the biggest barrier on the TeamBank path to sustainable controlling?

Wiersich: In particular, there were two obstacles to overcome: On the one hand, to break up existing, long-lived processes and integrate new IT systems. On the other hand, to promote the willingness of employees to develop as well as their own motivation. After all, it was also about the question of the responsibility of novel, data-driven forecasts, since their creation and support can also be done in their own data analytics departments.

New IT systems, new IT skills - do we need new controllers?

Wiersich: Against the background of digitization, controlling will complement the IT system landscape. Dealing with these systems requires the acquisition of new IT skills. Therefore, a controller needs to be open, curious, and willing to learn to tackle future challenges.

What is your main message to Controller from 50-plus and 30-plus generations?

Wiersich: While experienced controllers bring a wealth of know-how, generation Y controllers are often very open-minded, especially for technical innovations. If existing know-how and technical affinity are brought together, digitization in controlling can be easier. Therefore, a goal-oriented team work characterized by mutual understanding is the message to the employees in controlling.
